GreenWorks! PollinatorLIVE Grants
PLT, the U.S Forest Service and the Prince William Network are pleased to present PLT GreenWorks! PollinatorLIVE Grants. PLT-trained educators are eligible to apply for up to $500 to create a pollinator garden in their school yard or community. Students must be involved in the planning and implementation of the project. The deadline to apply is December 3rd 2010.

The grants are part of PollinatorLIVE: A Distance Learning Adventure. This project will provide teachers and students with a fun, informative, and interactive way to learn about pollinators through several events taking place in the next few months. Most of the activities will be broadcast online via webcam.

Lego Children’s Fund Grants
Deadline: May 1
These grants are awarded to organiations with collaborative programs involving early childhood education and development, technology, and communication projects that advance learning opportunities or athletic programs focusing underserved youth. American Honda Foundation Grants
Deadline: May 1
The American Honda Foundation awards grants of up to $100,000 to K-12 schools, colleges, universities, trade schools, and others for programs beneiting youth and scientific education- the physical and life sciences, mathematics, and the environmental sciences. Programs characterized as scientific, imaginative, creative, hmanistic, youthful, innovative, and forward thinking will receive preference.

Dollar General’s Back-to-School Grants
Deadline: May 22
K-12 schools can obtain grants of up to $5,000 to implement new programs or purchase new equipment, materials, or softwae for their school library or literacy program from Dollar General’s Literacy Grant Program.

Irwin Andrew Porter Foundation Grants

The Irwin Andrew Porter Foundation funds environmental education programs that show evidence that the creator thinks "outside the box." The quality, innovation, thoughtfulness, and effectiveness of the project are all considered in determining the winners of this grant. Grant amounts may range from $500 to $30,000. Jordan Fundamentals Grants
Deadline: April 15
The Jordan Fundamentals Grant program recognizes outstanding teeching and instructional creativity in public middle and secondary schools servicing economically disadvantaged students. Innovation Grants averaging $2,500 will go to individual teachers for projects spurring classroom innovation and improving instruction. Inspiration Grants totaling $10,000 will be awarded to teams of teachers for implementing approaches developed with the Innovation Grants.

ING Unsung Heroes Awards
Deadline: April 30
Each year, ING’s Unsung Heroes Awards program selects 100 educators to receive $2,000to help fund innovative class projects. Three awardees are then chosen to receive the top awards of an additional $5,000, $10,000, and $25,000. Full-time educators, teachers, principals, paraprofessionals, or classified staff members whose projects improve student learning at an accredited K-12 public or private school may apply.

Toyota International Teacher Program
Deadline: May 26
This professional development opportunity for educators aims to advance environmental stewardship and global connectedness in U.S. schools and communities. The program will take place November 20 – December 4, 2010. Full-time classroom teachers and librarians of all subjects for grades 6 – 12 are eligible to apply. International Educators Institute
The International Educators Institute (IEI) is a forest study tour for environmental educators and forest researchers. Combining content-rich, hands-on experiences in the field with a multicultural exchange of best practices in education and research, IEI seeks to advance effective teaching and learning about social, economic, and environmental challenges facing the world’s forests. World-class scenery, special behind-the-scenes tours, and interviews with local people are combined with peer-to-peer leadership development. Community POWER Grants

Community POWER (Partners on Waste Education and Reduction) is a project of the Solid Waste Management Coordinating Board that supports innovative, community-based approaches to waste reduction, toxicity reduction, and recycling projects. For nine years, Community POWER has educated and actively engaged over a half million residents of the six-county twin-city metro area in waste reduction by partnering with “non-environmental” organizations and schools. $168,000 is available, supporting projects up to $12,000 each. BrainTrack Teaching Schools Scholarship
Deadline: March 1 and November 1, 2010
The BrainTrack Scholarship for Teaching helps current students pay for their education. Entrants must respond to essay questions geared toward helping people evaluate teaching as a potential career path. The scholarship is open to students with at least one semester of credits towards graduation with an appropriate degree in teaching. One student award of $1,000 for the best entry and one of $500 for the second best entry is planned for each of two semesters, on an annual basis. 2010 USA Biology Olympiad

USA Biology Olympiad, jointly sponsored by the Center for Excellence in Education and Purdue University, is a biology competition in the United States. Starting with registered students from across the country, the competition ultimately selects 4 students as "Team USA" to represent our nation at the International Biology Olympiad. Last year, for the third year in a row, Team USA returned home from the International Biology Olympiad with 4 gold medals. The team hopes to capitalize on this success in 2010! Earthwatch Institute’s Live From the Field Fellowships

Pay it Forward Mini Grants

These grants fund one-time-only, service-oriented projects identified by youth as activities they would like to perform to benefit their school, neighborhood, or greater community. Project Orange Thumb Grants

Fiskars awards grants to schools, youth groups, and other community groups with gardening projects featuring community involvement, neighborhood beautification, horticultural education, or sustainable agriculture. Disney's Planet Challenge Announces Funding for Classroom Environmental Science Projects Disney announced a new granting initiative to supplement its free environmental learning competition for fourth through sixth grade classrooms, Disney’s Planet Challenge. Disney is collaborating with DonorsChoose.org, an online charity that connects individual “citizen philanthropists” with classrooms in need, to match donations and fund 50 percent of each Disney’s Planet Challenge classroom environmental science project that qualifies.

Disney is providing a $100,000 grant to DonorsChoose.org that will be applied towards the Web site’s “Double Your Impact” feature which will fund 50 percent of environmental science classroom projects for Disney’s Planet Challenge, a program developed by Disney in collaboration with NSTA, West Ed K–12 Alliance and a number of federal and state government agencies. EPA Environmental Education Grants
Deadline: December 15, 2009
EPA seeks proposals to support environmental education projects that promote environmental stewardship and help develop knowledgeable and responsible students, teachers, and citizens. EPA issues Environmental Education Grants from Headquarters as well as its Regional offices. Regional offices fund projects from $5,000 to $50,000. EPA Headquarters funds projects from $50,001 to $200,000. Most grants awarded will be in the $15,000 to $25,000 range. Following instructions is an important part of the application process, so please read carefully!

Toyota International Teacher Program

The Toyota International Teacher Program offers fully-funded, international, professional development opportunities for U.S. educators. The program aims to advance environmental stewardship and global connectedness in U.S. schools and communities through creative, interdisciplinary, and solution-based teaching methods. NEA Foundation Green Grants

Public school educators are eligible to apply for NEA Foundation Green Grants worth up to $5,000 for the development and implementation of ideas, techniques and approaches for teaching "green" concepts. Big Green Help Grants target environmental education as an area of promise in helping students develop a sense of environmental stewardship. NEA’s Green Grants to Public School Educators support projects that integrate green-related topics with standards-based content areas to increase student engagement and improve academic achievement.

Braitmayer Foundation Education Grants
Deadline: November 15, 2009
The Braitmayer Foundation offers grants to fund a broad range of K-12 education programs with curricular reform initiatives and professional development opportunities for teachers. The grants can be used as seed money, challenge grants, or to match other grants to the recipient organizations. Grants up to $35,000 are awarded and applications are accepted twice each year.

Healthy Sprouts Awards Program
Deadline: October 17, 2009
The National Gardening Association encourages the growth of health-focused youth garden programs through the Healthy Sprouts Awards Program sponsored by Gardener's Supply Company. The awards support school and youth garden programs that teach about nutrition and the hunger issues in the United States. To be eligible, a school or organization must plan to garden in 2010 with at least fifteen children between the ages of 3 and 18. The selection of winners is based on the relationship between the garden program and nutrition and hunger issues in the U.S. Visit the KidsGardening website to download an application. Grants are awarded in gift certificates to Gardener’s Supply Company and are valued at $200 and $500.
